With a wealth of financial knowledge and expertise, find out more about what spurred David to set up his company, the services he provides and what he’s looking forward to achieving in the future:
“As a youngster I wanted to go to America and become a professional basketball player. However, as I progressed to university my interest sharpened towards a career in Financial Services. My teachers always said that “David needs to work with people” – so I did precisely that.”
Advancing through lifelong learning
“I began my work in the industry for the Cooperative Insurance Society (CIS) in June 1999 and began studying for the Chartered Insurance Institute Financial Planning qualification, fully qualifying as a financial adviser in 2000.
“The opportunity to join CIS in 1999 and train as a Financial Advisor was a step in the right direction for me. From there, I went on to take further advanced diploma qualifications in Tax and Trust planning to achieve the diploma in Financial Planning.
“I studied Business Studies and Law at A Level before embarking on a Management Degree at the University of Central Lancashire in 1996. I had a keen interest in financial education and how there seemed to be a distinct lack of this type of information at school and beyond. Taking my student loans and investing them while I worked through university was an early sign that I was good at putting money in the right place.
“In 2007, I determined that I could help my clients far better if I made the move to set up my own company as an independent financial advisor. Having gained the trust of my clients, some I had known for years, nurtured their confidence and trust in me to move their financial affairs to my newly established company.”
Building David Hester Wealth Management from the ground up
“Being able to offer clients the very best financial products and services was a big step forward and the results helped lay the foundations of what the company is today. Through strong partnerships, I work closely with clients at key stages of their financial journey, to ensure that their financial plan is on track and delivers the outcomes that are most important to them.
“I later went on to acquire another financial services business operating in the Cumbria area (Kendal Financial Management) in 2010. This brought on a significant number of new clients and enabled me to transform the experience of their financial affairs.
Moving them to my Advanced Investment Strategy led to reduced costs, increased performance and simplification of their portfolios. This was a pivotal time as it increased the scale of the company and an uptake in assets.”
Close client collaboration is key
“The thing that always surprises me when I meet clients and assess their affairs is how out of date their affairs tend to be and how spread-out they are across lots of providers. Our wealth management plan brings simplification to their affairs and allows them to know how much money they have whenever they wish.
“My typical day is varied and involves monitoring the investment markets and reading widely about the economic and political developments that impact client funds. I also meet with both new and existing clients, respond to their enquiries, plan future appointments, and implement investment changes where necessary.”
Looking ahead
“My goals for the next 12-24 months are to increase the awareness of my company by implementing a marketing plan and building our presence on social media. I am also looking forward to launching a regular podcast too.
“My business is all about relationships and leaving my clients with complete confidence in their money. The impact of my advice with clients for over a quarter of a century is a comfortable retirement situation, with clients living the life they want and having their financial portfolio deliver for them.
“Removing client worries and concerns makes me feel fantastic and seeing them living their best lives is so rewarding for me. I look forward to achieving this and more in the future.”
